Fort Pierce Central duo to Bethune-Cookman

By Jason Lieser

Fort Pierce Central stars Tim Smith and Jabari Cargill plan to sign with Bethune-Cookman tomorrow.

Smith (6-2, 190, No. 36 on The Big Board) was highly recruited after a strong junior season at quarterback, but was suspended from the team prior to the 2009 season. When he was reinstated, the Cobras used him in various role offensively and defensively.

His stock has dropped substantially in the past six months. At one point, Smith had solid offers from Boston College, Tennessee, Florida Atlantic and others. Those schools do not appear to be open to him anymore.

As a senior, Smith had 688 yards of total offense and scored five touchdowns.

Cargill (6-3, 185, No. 49 on The Big Board) arguably was Fort Pierce Central’s top overall player at receiver and defensive back, though his list of offers seems t have shrunk as well.

He had 485 yards of total offense and four touchdowns last year.

Bethune-Cookman already has a commitment from Treasure Coast’s Patt Harris, who plays receiver and defensive back.

All commitments are non-binding. No player is locked into a school until he signs a national letter of intent. The first day seniors can sign is tomorrow, national signing day.
