Palm Beach Lakes stars Johnnie Simon and Morris Moore sign

By Jason Lieser

After listening to Palm Beach Lakes safety Johnnie Simon read a half-page speech about his decision to sign with Western Michigan, Rams defensive tackle Morris Moore followed with a much shorter announcement.

“I’m a Blue Raider,” said Moore, who signed with Middle Tennessee State. “That’s all I’ve got to say.”

The small conference room erupted in laughter and applause when Simon drew a folded piece of paper from his pocket and began reading his speech, most of which centered on his faith in God.

“I give him all the glory and thank him for blessing me with the talent and mindset that I have for the game,” Simon said. “He’s the one that gave me the talent I have.

“I don’t know why, but every time I get interviewed and say something about God, it’s never added on there, so please, can y’all just add this on there this one time?

“He’s the one that gave me the talent I have. There’s a lot of things I’ve been through that I couldn’t have accomplished without him. Two or three years ago, I couldn’t see myself signing on signing day. My GPA went from a 2.3 to a 2.9 and my goal is to graduate with a 3.0. All of that is through God.”

Simon (6-1, 190, No. 23 on The Big Board) had 87 tackles and two interceptions last season.
