Jupiter basketball star Kevin Paxson’s senior season, and his high school career, might already be finished.

The Florida High School Athletic Association suspended Paxson for at least two weeks after he was ejected from Friday’s game against Dwyer. Referees hit Paxson with consecutive technical fouls for arguing a non-call and the FHSAA ruled it a Level 2 unsportsmanlike conduct violation.

The suspension makes Paxson ineligible until Feb. 19. He will miss all of this week’s District 9-6A tournament. If the Warriors manage to reach the district title game they will advance to the state playoffs, but Paxson can not return until the second round.

Jupiter begins the 9-6A tournament Wednesday against Palm Beach Gardens. If the Warriors win, they will face either Santaluces or Park Vista. Jupiter needs to win both of those games to make the state playoffs.

In a letter to the school, FHSAA Assistant Executive Director Peggy Jones wrote that the standard suspension for a Level 2 violation is six weeks, but chose to give Paxson two weeks after reviewing the situation.

Additionally, Jupiter was fined $250 for Paxson’s offense and another $100 because he is the team’s fourth suspended player this season.

Three players were suspended after an incident with Palm Beach Lakes, including forward Tyler Cameron. The FHSAA initially suspended Cameron for six weeks, but later reduced it to three.

Paxson has a reputation as one of the area’s most fiery players, but said in an interview last month he was trying to tone down his demeanor this season.

“This year I’ve tried to keep it to myself,” he said in January. “I’m still emotional, obviously, but I try to just let the refs do their thing.”

Here is the exact transcript from the officials’ report to the FHSAA (all grammar and spelling has been left unedited):

“At approximately the 5 minute mark of the 3rd quarter, Jupiter player [redacted] was issued 2 technical fouls for arguing by official U1. [redacted] began verbally arguing with the official pulling his shirt out of his pants and jumping up and down displaying unsportsman like conduct. As Official R was trying to escort player [redacted] to his bench area [redacted] received a third technical foul for again disrespecting officials by saying “you guys suck, and you guys are the worst officials we have had all year.”
