Suncoast hires Micah Mays as new football coach

By Jason Lieser

Suncoast will introduce Micah Mays as its new football coach this afternoon, Athletic Director Pat Ikem said.

Mays, 30, is a local product who played quarterback for Palm Beach Lakes before graduating in 1997. He was an assistant coach for the Rams the past six seasons and said he is “very excited” about his first opportunity as a head coach.

“It’s going to be some hard work and commitment, but I don’t believe it’s far from where it needs to be,” Mays said of Suncoast’ program.

After finishing his playing career at Palm Beach Lakes, Mays went on to play for Grambling State.

Ikem said Suncoast principal Dr. Linda Cartlidge made the hire.

Former coach G. Alan Williams resigned last month after three seasons with the team. Williams said he was leaving to pursue “new opportunities.”

He went 9-20-1, including 3-6-1 in 2009.
