Atlantic’s football plans don’t include Andre Thaddies

By Jason Lieser

Andre Thaddies will not return as Atlantic’s football coach, athletic director Kevin Logan said.

The Palm Beach County School District reassigned Thaddies to an administrative position while he is under investigation for allegedly groping and biting two female student-athletes. District police arrested him and charged him with two misdemeanor counts of battery.

He is scheduled for arraignment April 8, but regardless of the outcome, Logan said the school will find a new football coach.

“I don’t know if he’s coming back (as a school employee) or not, but he’s not going to coach here,” Logan said.

Logan also said school officials plan to meet tomorrow to discuss filling the vacant coaching position. Atlantic has not officially named an interim coach, but basketball coach Chris Bean has been overseeing the team in an informal role. Spring practices begin in May.

Bean was the Eagles’ head football coach from 2003 through ’05 and went 20-10 with three playoff appearances. He also spent nine seasons as an assistant coach. He is a former Atlantic football player who graduated in 1986.

Thaddies, also a former Eagles player, went 32-12 in his four seasons as head coach. Atlantic went 5-5 last year and missed the playoffs for the first time in Thaddies’ tenure.
