Wind at County Track & Field Meet produces mixed results

By Post Staff

It was a windy day at Thursday’s Palm Beach County and the conditions helped some and hindered others.

Boynton Beach’s Jessica Ramsey thought the wind might have aided her record-breaking throw of 44-10.50 because she pulled a muscle in her leg in practice the day before and she still had a great throw, though that wasn’t her best one of the season. At the conference meet, Ramsey threw a 47-00.

Palm Beach Lakes’ Eddie Lovett expectedly ran away with the 110 hurdles in 14.03 but was visibly disappointed with his time because he was aiming for under 14 seconds and the wind was likely the reason why he didn’t get there. Lovett has run a 14 flat this season.

Suncoast sprinter Antwan Wright took the 100 in 10.74 and the 200 in 22.06, short of his best times. He ran a 21.94 in the 200 at conference and his career best is 21.72. His career best is 10.57 in the 100 but he’s hoping for a high 10.4 by the end of the season.

“I’m where I should be right now,” Wright said. “Even with bad weather like this, running the times that I’m running, I should be good for states. And running with wind like this is just going to make you better.”
