Chris Bean is Atlantic’s interim football coach, Brad Flaig named new basketball coach

Seems to be a connection here.

Atlantic athletic director Kevin Logan said Tuesday that Chris Bean is the Eagles’ interim football coach. It is unclear how long Bean will fill that role, but the fact that Atlantic has hired a new basketball coach to replace him points toward Bean taking over the football program long term.

Logan announced Tuesday that Brad Flaig is the school’s new boys basketball coach, a position Bean held until now. Flaig previously coached at Boynton Beach and Chiefland. He led the Tigers to the Class 5A championship game in 2003.

Bean, who coached Atlantic football from 2003 through ’05, has been working informally with the team and college recruiters since the arrest of former coach Andre Thaddies last month. Logan said shortly after Thaddies’ arrest that he would not return for a fifth season as head coach.

Atlantic is scheduled to begin official spring practices May 1 and will host Santaluces for the spring game May 27.

Bean went 20-10 as head football coach and took the team to the playoffs in each of his three seasons. He played football for the Eagles before graduating in 1986.

Thaddies was 32-12, including a 5-5 mark last year.
