Ron Parker takes head job at Centennial

By Jason Lieser

Centennial has named former defensive coordinator Ron Parker its new head coach.

Centennial athletic director John Messina said the school received 96 applications for the job after Jim O’Neal left and narrowed the field to 10 finalists.

“We did a prolonged search and … we felt Ron was the best one,” Messina said. “He’s a very loyal man with very innovative ideas.”

Parker was O’Neal’s defensive coordinator for 12 years and has been with the program since its inception.

O’Neal resigned in March to return to Chiefland High, where won a state title as head coach in ’97.

O’Neal went 59-60 in 12 seasons as Centennial’s coach. The Eagles went 3-7 last year.
