Palm Beach Lakes’ Eddie Lovett headed to Florida on a track scholarship

By Post Staff

Fresh off setting a new state record in the 110 hurdles, Palm Beach Lakes senior Eddie Lovett has signed a track scholarship with the University of Florida. Lovett had been talking to the University of South Florida during the season but Florida came on strong right after the regional meet. He also had interest from Louisiana State and South Carolina.

Lovett broke the 20-year-old state record in the 110 hurdles at the Class 3A state meet last weekend in 13.46. Philip Riley of Orlando-Jones set the previous record of 13.59 in 1990. Lovett also was one of the area’s top wide receivers but an arm injury that caused him to miss most of his senior season all but ended his hopes of earning a football scholarship.
