Spring Football Tour (video): Santaluces aims higher

By Jason Lieser

Note: Welcome to the PBGametime 2010 Spring Football Tour! During our two-week tour, we visit area teams, meet some of the top players and answer the most pressing questions. Today’s stop is Santaluces, where the Chiefs look to prove last season was no fluke.

Santaluces cannot settle for merely making the playoffs in 2010.

The Chiefs took big steps last year: went 5-5 in the regular season after winning four games in 2008, won the district at 2-1 and put up a good fight in their first-round playoff loss to Melbourne.

This year, the minimum standards should be an undefeated district record and at least one playoff win. The Chiefs also need to play better against top opponents. Seminole Ridge crushed them 49-0 last year and Boca Raton cruised to a 28-7 win. Santaluces needs to compete with those types of teams to be taken seriously.

One player to keep an eye on in this week’s spring game (Thursday at Atlantic, 7 p.m.) is WR/DB Terrance Floyd (5-10, 184, No. 25 on The Big Board). Floyd caught 13 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns last season.
