Fort Pierce-Westwood football hires new coach Rodrick Lawson

A little more than a month after Fort Pierce-Westwood football coach Waides Ashmon resigned, the Panthers have a new leader.

Rodrick Lawson, who coached Florida Air Academy in Melbourne for the past six years, beat out 33 other applicants for the job. Lawson’s FAA teams were 41-21 during his tenure. Last season, FAA lost in the 1B regional finals to Warner Christian, the team that Glades Day beat for the 1B state title two weeks later.

Fort Pierce-Westwood was 8-4 last season, losing to eventual runner-up Belen Jesuit in the regional finals. has more on the hire.
