Pahokee’s Rickey Jackson will always have muck between his toes

By Matt Porter

It’s the start of the final month before juniors can officially receive written scholarship offers from colleges, and we’ll be monitoring the biggest names in the area for any new developments.

If a proposed rule change is approved for next year, the NCAA will ban colleges from making any scholarship offers until the summer before a player’s senior year.

While we make the rounds, check out Hal Habib’s story in today’s Palm Beach Post, on Pahokee’s own Rickey Jackson.

Jackson, who made his mark as a linebacker for the New Orleans Saints and won a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers, is about become Palm Beach County’s first entry into the NFL Hall of Fame.

No doubt there will be more going from the 561 to Canton (Fred Taylor should be next) but not all of them will represent the Muck like Jackson.

He says he intends his Hall of Fame speech to inspire kids in his hometown. After the clock ran out and Jackson’s 49ers won Super Bowl XXIX, he ran around the field after waving a towel with ‘PAHOKEE’ written on it.

That’s inspirational.
