Kirk Herbstreit to kick off high school football season at the waterfront

By Matt Porter

On Monday, the host of ESPN’s College GameDay will present a night for high school football at the West Palm Beach waterfront.

3x7-herbstreitCollege football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is the featured guest for a free event, the 2010 Football Kick-off, presented by ESPN 760-AM, PNC Bank and the City of West Palm Beach. The event runs from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Herbstreit, the former Ohio State quarterback, will name ESPN 760′s top 10 Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast high school players to watch, take questions from the audience and preview the upcoming college football season. Also, Mayor Lois Frankel will present Herbstreit with the key to the city.

Maybe ESPN can convince Lee Corso to come down and wear the head of one of the local mascots.

ESPN 760 spokesperson Stephanie Price said the station will give away University of Miami football tickets, gift certificates to restaurants and other prizes.

It should be a cheap night, too — vendors will be selling food for less than five dollars, and garage parking after 5 p.m. costs one dollar.

On Sept. 6, Dwyer will play Cleveland’s Glenville High in the Kirk Herbstreit Kickoff Classic, televised on ESPN.
