Pahokee appealing three-game suspension of OL/DE Cordel Walkes

By Matt Porter

Pahokee junior Cordel Walkes will miss tonight’s game against Inlet Grove due to suspension, according to Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson.

Walkes, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound offensive and defensive lineman, has been suspended three weeks by the FHSAA, Thompson said. The team is appealing for a reduced suspension.

Walkes was ejected for throwing a punch during the fourth quarter of Pahokee’s 12-7 win over Atlantic on Sept. 3.

Thompson said the team is appealing the suspension on the grounds that instead of throwing a punch, Walkes was trying to strip the ball from an Atlantic player.

If the appeal is not granted, Walkes also will miss Pahokee’s Sept. 17 game at Dwyer, and Sept. 24 game at Cardinal Newman.
