Dwyer’s Nick O’Leary will not play; Atlantic’s Jephete Matulis will play

By Matt Porter

Two Friday afternoon notes to pass along:

Dwyer tight end Nick O’Leary will not play in Friday’s game against Pahokee. The school’s appeal to the FHSAA of O’Leary’s suspension was denied, athletic director Tom Pagley confirmed.

O’Leary, the No. 1 prospect on the Big Board, was handed a two-week suspension after making an obscene gesture at the end of Dwyer’s controversial, season-opening 26-22 loss to Cleveland-Glenville on Sept. 6.

“We’re not taking any further action, and I don’t expect the family to,” said Pagley. O’Leary can return Oct. 1 against Atlantic. The Panthers have a bye next week.

Atlantic linebacker Jephete Matilus, the No. 14 prospect on the Big Board, told The Post’s Jeff Greer he will play on Friday against Boynton Beach.

The Minnesota-bound senior missed the Eagles’ first two games because of an undisclosed injury.
