Keith Byars II will not play against Seminole Ridge

By Jeff Greer

Boca Raton coach Keith Byars said his son, Keith Byars II, will not play in Friday night’s District 8-6A showdown against fourth-ranked Seminole Ridge (3-0). He hasn’t played a down this season.

Byars, a junior tailback, will be a major factor for Boca Raton (1-1, No. 9 in the Palm Beach Post rankings) when he returns from a ruptured spleen that required emergency surgery over the summer. But right now, no return date has been circled.

“He plays when the doctors say he can play,” Byars said of his son.

At Monday’s practice, the 5-10, 205-pound younger Byars looked sharp, but he isn’t playing at full contact yet. When he is ready, look out.

For now, Boca will still rely on Cameron Lewis to carry the offensive load. Byars calls Lewis his “do-everything guy,” and Lewis will need to play that role and then some against Seminole Ridge.
