Keith Byars II plays (after all) in Boca’s loss to Seminole Ridge

By Jeff Greer

On Monday, Boca Raton coach Keith Byars said that his son, Keith Byars II, wouldn’t play against district rival Seminole Ridge.

But on Friday night, Byars, wearing No. 7, suited up after all, starting at running back for Boca. Byars said doctors gave his son clearance to play on Thursday night, and the junior tailback looked fine in his debut.

Byars took eight carries for 24 yards and had one catch for nine yards.

“A little rusty,” the running back’s father and coach said of his son’s first appearance this season. “He’s going to get better and stronger each and every week. It’s a long road. You don’t do anything for eight, almost nine weeks, it’s hard to jump back in and be as sharp as you can be.”
