Judge sentences ‘friend’ of slain Pahokee football star to life in prison

A judge this morning imposed the mandatory sentence Carl Booth Jr. must face following his first-degree murder conviction in the death of rising Pahokee football star Norman “Pooh” Griffith.

“It is with a heavy heart knowing the pain your parents feel, knowing you were 17 years old at the time of the shooting, 19 years old now,” said County Judge Barry Cohen. “But recognizing the pain caused to the victim’s family, I sentence you to … life in prison.”

Without the possibility of parole?” a clerk later asked.

“That is correct,” Cohen said.
