Glades Day-Jupiter Christian playoff game coming to Roger Dean Stadium

By Matt Porter

Glades Day and Jupiter Christian have been on a collision course all season.

After Glades Day bounced Jupiter Christian from the Class 1B playoffs last season, Jupiter Christian won the teams’ season opener at Glades Day.

Now, they’ll battle again — in the Class 1B regional final, at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.

It will be the first football game played at Roger Dean, the spring training home of the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals and home to the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals.

Jupiter Christian, who beat Highlands Christian 48-0 Friday night in its playoff opener, finished the season ranked No. 6 in the Post’s Top 10. The defending Class 1B state champions, Glades Day beat Barrington 51-30 Thursday night to advance to the regional final.

Fans who attend the game will see two of the best running backs in the area. Jupiter Christian senior Trey Pendergrass led the area with 1,924 yards and 28 touchdowns on 172 carries. Glades Day sophomore Kelvin Taylor, the son of NFL star Fred Taylor, put up 1,542 yards and 22 touchdowns on 195 carries.

A 7:30 kickoff will be followed by a fireworks show. The gates open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Jupiter Christian School Athletics office, the Roger Dean Stadium box office, or online at Ticketmaster.com. For more information, call Nancy Loud at (561) 354-1931.
