Third-round football playoff schedule, fast facts

We’ve reached the third week of the 2010 playoffs. The big-school bracket is in regional finals, while small schools are gearing up for states.

After Friday’s games, five area teams are left, and three need to win on the road this week to keep their seasons alive. If you’d like, you can check out the full FHSAA playoff bracket here.

Here are the games involving teams in our area. All games are Fri., Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.:

Class 6A regional final: Seminole Ridge at Orlando-Dr. Phillips

Fast facts: Seminole Ridge beat Atlantic 23-20 Friday night, thanks to a field goal with 3.5 seconds left . . . Dr. Phillips beat Oak Ridge 45-0 Friday night, earning its fifth shutout of the season . . . Dr. Phillips has allowed a three points in its first two playoff games . . .  Dr. Phillips lost to Apopka 58-52 (5 OT) in last year’s regional finals . . . Seminole Ridge’s wins over Vero Beach (regional quarterfinals) and Atlantic (regional semifinals) are the first playoff wins in school history . . . Winner plays Orange Park/Sanford-Seminole winner in state semifinals.

Fast facts: Game is a rematch of the teams’ May 21 spring game, in which Dwyer stumbled to a 26-18 loss . . . Dwyer beat Hollywood Hills 43-0 Friday night, thanks to its quick-strike offense and four TDs from running back Shawn McClaine . . . Palm Bay beat New Smyrna Beach 27-14 Friday night, jumping out to a 20-0 third-quarter lead . . . Winner plays Punta Gorda-Charlotte/Seffner-Armwood winner in state semifinals . . . Dwyer beat Armwood 41-15 at home in last year’s state semifinals.

Fast facts: Glades Central beat American Heritage-Plantation 31-19 Friday night, thanks to a strong showing from its passing game and from its defense, which forced five turnovers . . . Robinson beat Tampa Jesuit 21-7 Friday night behind  177 rushing yards and two touchdowns from senior running back J.J. Hubbard . . . Winner plays Cocoa-Madison County winner in state final . . . Glades Central lost 27-13 to Cocoa in last year’s state final.

Fast facts: Game is a rematch of last year’s state semifinal, in which American Heritage squeaked out a 9-7 win in windy, rainy conditions. The Stallions ended the Miners’ then-perfect 2009 season . . . On Friday, American Heritage beat King’s Academy 33-3, jumping out to a 20-0 first-quarter lead . . . Fort Meade beat Berkeley Prep 35-14 thanks to three touchdowns from dual-threat quarterback Ronald Jones . . . Winner plays Bratt-Northview/Jacksonville-Trinity Christian winner in state final . . . American Heritage beat Trinity Christian 30-20 in last year’s state final.

Lakeland-Victory Christian beat St. Petersburg-Admiral Farragut 24-20, nearly surrendering a 21-point fourth-quarter lead before sealing the win with a controversial field goal . . . Winner plays Monticello-Jefferson County/South Daytone-Warner Christian winner in state final . . . Glades Day beat Warner Christian 27-20 (OT) in last year’s state final, thanks to 213 yards and four touchdowns from Kelvin Taylor.
