Florida coach Zach Azzanni visits Kelvin Benjamin, Glades Central

By Jeff Greer

Florida wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni got some muck on his shoes today, visiting Glades Central on a South Florida recruiting swing. Several Raiders are on Florida’s radar, especially senior receiver Kelvin Benjamin.

Azzanni paid a visit to the home of junior linebacker Dominique Gibson, who said via text message that the coach was there to see him and Benjamin, “but (Benjamin) mostly.”

According to, Florida is also interested in junior wideout Jaime Wilson, an athletic, speedy 6-foot, 185-pounder who will be one of the top-rated receivers in Florida next year. After Benjamin exhausted his high school eligibility, Wilson has assumed the role as the leading receiver for the Raiders.

Benjamin, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound receiver with serious NFL potential, is No. 2 on our recruiting Big Board. In August, Glades Central coach Jessie Hester told The Palm Beach Post‘s Jason Lieser that Florida was in the lead for Benjamin’s services.

Plenty has been speculated about Benjamin, who wore a Florida State hat at his team’s opening playoff game two weeks ago against Cardinal Gibbons and visited Tallahassee this past weekend. Benjamin told that Miami is still on his list, but the firing of coach Randy Shannon makes the situation tough to read. In the same article, Benjamin said his leading three were Florida, Florida State and West Virginia, and he’ll visit Morgantown this coming weekend.

More to come Wednesday when I head out to Glades Central to catch practice. Follow me and my fellow reporter Matt Porter for more recruiting updates.
