Harvard a firm leader for Boca Raton kicker David Bicknell

By Jeff Greer

David Bicknell has had a pretty good week. He won the Lou Groza Place-Kicker of the Year Award on Tuesday night. And on Monday night, Harvard special teams coach Tony Reno visited Bicknell and his family at their home.

“We just talked about everything,” Bicknell said. “He told me that, next week, (Harvard head coach) Tim Murphy would be down to talk about a few things and hopefully set up a way to get me up there.”

Bicknell said Harvard is down to three kickers that it’s looking at for next year. The senior has a booming leg and can kick off, kick field goals and punt.

“Hopefully they like what they’ve seen and choose me as their guy,” Bicknell said.

It helps that the 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior is a fantastic student. He’s ranked eighth in his senior class of 671 students and he takes academics seriously. Needless to say he’s excited that the most prestigious university in the world is interested in him.

“Right now, Harvard’s my No. 1,” Bicknell said. “I don’t see any other schools being able to take Harvard away from me or me away from Harvard.”
