Dwyer’s Curt Maggitt delays decision, will make college choice in January

By Jeff Greer

He had planned all season to make his much-awaited college choice on an outdoors show the day after Christmas, but Dwyer defensive end Curt Maggitt changed his mind. Instead he’ll wait until late January to make his announcement.

Maggitt (6-4, 215, No. 5 on the Big Board) has officially visited Alabama, LSU and Wisconsin, and he’s entertaining scholarship offers from many other BCS schools, including Florida, Florida State and Miami. He plans to visit Tennessee in January, and is leaning toward using his final visit on Florida.

He originally planned to announce his decision at the end of an hour-long documentary about his life on Respect Outdoors, a show hosted by family friend Robert Arrington. Arrington wanted to capture the blue-chip recruit’s life away from football, showing him hosting barbecues, fishing and doing other outdoors activities.

He’ll still do the show and the announcement on Respect Outdoors, it just won’t be until January.

“I wanted to focus on finishing my last football season (at Dwyer),” Maggitt said. “I didn’t want to force my decision. I want to make a concrete pick.”

Maggitt was named Palm Beach Post Large Schools Defensive Player of the Year for football after recording 15 sacks and 15 tackles for loss on a Dwyer team that reached the Class 4A state semifinals.
