Girls basketball: Lincoln Park’s Dyana Pierre suspended six weeks

By Matt Porter

One of the area’s top girls basketball players may have her high school career cut short due to an in-game incident.

Lincoln Park Academy senior Dyana Pierre was suspended six weeks by the FHSAA for using foul language toward an official.

In the fourth quarter of a Jan. 6 game against Fort Pierce Central, Pierre fouled out and headed to the bench. According to an FHSAA report, Pierre was overheard using foul language in protest of the call. Lincoln Park won 72-68.

Pierre is suspended until Feb. 17. She would not be eligible to play until the regional finals, which begin Feb. 19.

A 6-foot-2 forward, Pierre is the area’s fifth-leading scorer (17.8 points per game) and her 12.7 rebounds are second among large schools. She is ranked No. 82 nationally at her position by ESPN and listed as a three-star recruit.

No. 8 Lincoln Park (15-4) has won its last two games without Pierre, including Wednesday night’s 57-48 win over Centennial. The Greyhounds have three games remaining on their regular-season schedule before district tournament play starts Jan. 31.
