Olympic Heights’ Tavon Jenkins to play at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College

By Jeff Greer

Olympic Heights athlete Tavon Jenkins (No. 58 on the Big Board) plans to head to Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College in the fall, Olympic Heights coach Mitch Henghold said.

That said, FAU still has serious interest in Jenkins (5-7, 160), but the senior needs to get his grades up before FAU can offer him a scholarship. Olympic Heights coach Mitch Henghold said that will be hashed out at the end of the school year, and Jenkins could switch schools.

But for now, Henghold said he’s excited that his talented two-way star has the option to compete on the challenging JUCO circuit that Hutchinson plays in, the Jayhawk Conference.

The Jayhawk Conference has produced Corey Dillon (Garden City CC), Brandon Jacobs (Coffeyville CC) and Mike Rozier (Coffeyville CC), who won the Heisman Trophy in 1983. Detroit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill spent two years at Hutchinson before a successful career at Maryland.

“It’s great exposure for him and they’re excited to get him,” Henghold said.

Jenkins ran for 866 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season, earning Palm Beach Post All-Area second team honors. He also played defensive back for Olympic Heights.
