Dwyer star Curt Maggitt is a presence on defense. Turns out he also has on-camera presence.
In a video posted on YouTube by an account linked to Maggitt family friend Robert Arrington, a Dwyer alum and host of the “Respect Outdoors” TV show, Maggitt is shown living his life on and off the field.
Between the lines, Maggitt fires up his teammates and throws pancake blocks. After, he’s out shooting rifles, driving boats, and playing video games with friends.
It’s a preview of what we’ll see on the Sportsman Channel at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 3. On that show, called “Curt Maggitt: Outside the Pads,” the 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior will announce his college decision.
Here’s the trailer.
Maggitt, who was visited by Florida Gators offensive coordinator Charlie Weis on Friday, is taking an official visit to Tennessee this weekend. He is weighing scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
The No. 5 prospect on the PBGametime Big Board, Maggitt was named the Palm Beach Post’s Large Schools Defensive Player of the Year after helping Dwyer keep opponents to under a touchdown per game.
Another video posted to the same account shows Maggitt having fun in the classroom.
The description for the video, which was posted last April, says it’s a project for a junior year biology class. Let me put on my critic’s hat for a minute: This video has it all. Cool underwater footage, high production value, engaging narrator . . . I can only presume he got an A.
