Dwyer DT Keith Bowers commits to Maryland

By Matt Porter

Maryland commit Keith Bowers is a fiery kid. Metaphorically speaking, he wants to burn every school that overlooked him.

“I think some of them, some of the Florida guys, they were more focused on my height than my skills. But the Terrapins, they saw they I had to offer, so I will just see those guys in the regular season,” Bowers told Rivals.com.

Bowers (6-1, 260, No. 22 on the Big Board), who committed to Maryland Tuesday, lacked offers from in-state schools. He weighed offers from Illinois, Kansas, Northern Illinois and others. But the Terps wanted him most.

They contacted him early and never backed off despite a coaching change (Ralph Friedgen to Randy Edsall). Defensive coordinator Don Brown, who recruited Bowers, was retained by Edsall.

On his official visit to the school, Bowers saw the Terps’ Oct. 2 win over Duke.

A mobile, versatile lineman, Bowers is rated three stars by Rivals. A three-year starter on both sides of the line, he finished last season with 74 tackles and 15 sacks and was a first-team Palm Beach Post all-area selection.
