Former Jupiter Christian star Will Powers commits to Princeton

By Jeff Greer

“It’s cold.”

That was the first sentence out of former Jupiter Christian star Will Powers’s mouth when asked how life in New England is different from Florida. But aside from struggling with the rude fall weather, Powers excelled at Salisbury (Conn.) School.

On Friday, Powers (5-8, 190) decided to stay in the cold weather when he committed to play football at Princeton.

Powers, the son of Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers, helped Salisbury to an undefeated season with a 24-21 win over Lawrence Academy in its bowl game. Yes, that Lawrence Academy.

Powers, who had 1,223 total yards (983 rushing, 240 receiving) in 2009 and had 134 tackles as a senior at Jupiter Christian, started slow this fall at Salisbury because of a sprained PCL. But he certainly finished at full speed.

“I know I can play with anyone now,” Powers said. “We play some huge teams and I’ve still done pretty well.”

The way he played this year, there’s plenty to be positive about. Even if it’s a bit cold outside.
