Florida State gets early word from Benjamin, Smith, Brutus

Before 8 a.m. on signing day, Florida State had letters of intent from Treasure Coast defensive backs Keelin Smith and Lamarcus Brutus.

At 8:04 a.m., Florida State confirmed receipt of Glades Central WR Kelvin Benjamin’s letter of intent. Benjamin, the No. 2 player on the PBGametime Big Board, became the fifth signee of Florida State’s 2011 class.

At 11 a.m., Dwyer’s Nick O’Leary, who committed to the Noles last week, will participate in a signing day ceremony at Dwyer High.

Fort Pierce Central’s Giorgio Newberry is also expected to fax in a letter of intent to Tallahassee today.
