Three days later, Dwyer QB Jacoby Brissett officially signs with Florida Gators

By Matt Porter

We usually don’t get this deep into details of the recruiting process, but when a four-star quarterback’s status appears to be split between two major in-state colleges, we have to tie up the loose ends.

So that said, this afternoon Jacoby Brissett is officially a Florida Gator.

Monday morning, Dwyer coach Jack Daniels confirmed Brissett and his mother, Lisa Brown, signed a letter of intent and that it was faxed to Gainesville. Shortly before 1 p.m. the Gators’ football office confirmed receipt.

“Jacoby will be a good fit in our program,” head coach Will Muschamp said in a press release. “He is an outstanding quarterback and we are excited to have him join the Gator family.”

After Brissett on Friday declared his intentions to play for Florida, Brown expressed her discontent over her son’s choice, saying she would spend the weekend trying to convince him to instead play for Miami. It appears that effort did not sway Brissett, who on Friday told reporters he was “pretty set on my decision” when informed of his mother’s comments to the media.

A U.S. Army All-American, Brissett (6-5, 225, No. 4 on the Big Board) chose the Gators over Miami, Wisconsin and Washington. The fifth-ranked quarterback and No. 75 overall prospect in the country according to Rivals, Brissett was named the Palm Beach Post’s Large Schools Offensive Player of the Year and Lou Groza Awards Palm Beach County Player of the Year after his senior season, during which he threw for an area-best 2,743 yards and 32 touchdowns against one interception, and rushed 63 times for 368 yards and seven touchdowns.
