Notebook: PB Gardens QB walks on at UCF; Bethel University adds DB, OL

By Matt Porter

Palm Beach Gardens quarterback Tyler Bergman accepted a preferred walk-on spot at Central Florida.

Bergman will start fall practice as UCF’s fifth quarterback and will try to work his way up the ladder. “I think it’ll be great for him,” Palm Beach Gardens coach Chris Davis said.

As a senior, Bergman was an All-Area Honorable Mention selection. He played in the Lytal Reiter Smith Ivey and Fronrath Trial Attorneys High School Football All-Star Game, formerly known as the Outback Bowl.

Two of Bergman’s teammates on the South squad for the game announced their commitments to Bethel University, an NAIA school in McKenzie, Tenn.

Lake Worth defensive back Travis Meeks, who committed Saturday, was a second-team All-Area selection after his senior year. Presley Jean, Gardens’ starting right tackle his junior and senior seasons, committed Thursday. Both planned to sign this week.
