Basketball recruiting updates for Dwyer players, Santaluces’ Jeff Romeus

By Jeff Greer

There won’t be any college recruiters at the ESPN Rise Invitational to watch Dwyer, but they will be down in droves in April to inquire about multiple Dwyer players and several other area stars.

Dwyer coach Fred Ross said last week that several college coaches had told him they were not allowed to attend ESPN’s event this weekend in the D.C. area, so they won’t be on hand to watch shooting guards Vic Adams and Terrell Harris, point guard Montel Williams or power forward Derrick Davis.

Ross expects each of those seniors to play somewhere in the fall, and Adams in particular is expecting serious attention from Division I schools in April.

Meanwhile, Dwyer’s junior center Joel James said he’d start looking at and visiting schools once the Invitational ends.

Rivals.com reports that James has scholarship offers from Clemson, Massachusetts, Miami, South Carolina and UCF, and has received significant interest from Syracuse, Louisville, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and North Carolina, among others. If you search for his recruiting information, make sure you search for “Joell James.” The recruiting sites haven’t quite figured out how to spell Joel’s name correctly yet.

Romeus hears from Sun Belt school. Dwyer isn’t the only local program with a hoopster getting attention. Santaluces’ lights-out shooting guard Jeff Romeus said he was recently contacted by South Alabama and expects to hear from more Division I schools once the NCAA Tournament ends, which is when schools typically hit the road for late recruiting.

The 6-2 guard visited Indian River State College over spring break, but mostly to keep his options open. Romeus has drawn interest from several Florida schools like North Florida and Jacksonville and Presbyterian, a Big South school in South Carolina.
