Girls basketball: Trinity Christian’s Danielle McCray a Miss Basketball finalist

Trinity Christian’s Danielle McCray has a chance to finish her sparkling high school career with the state’s top individual honor.

The Ole Miss-bound power forward, who set Trinity Christian records in career points, rebounds and blocks, is one of six finalists for the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball Award, as voted on by a statewide panel of high school basketball coaches and media members.

She was the leading vote-getter in Class 1A, making her the statewide Player of the Year for that class.

McCray averaged 20.8 points, 13.4 rebounds, 4.2 blocks, 2.4 steals and 1.6 assists per game while leading the Warriors (23-5) to the Class 1A state final.

McCray finished her high school career with 2,531 points, 1,633 rebounds and 602 blocks. She is a two-time Palm Beach Post Player of the Year.

The other Miss Basketball finalists:

Class 6A: Morgan Jones, G/F, Lake Mary. Averaged 13.4 points, 4.1 assists and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from the floor for state runners-up.

Class 5A: Erica Lanier, G, Winter Haven. Posted 19.0 points, 4 steals and 4 assists for state runners-up.

Class 4A: Nicole Adams, G, Gulf. Put up 29.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game and finished with 2,324 career points.

Class 3A: Meghan Keough, G, Tampa Catholic. Led team to state title with 21.2 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game on 48 percent shooting.

Class 2A: Cartaesha Macklin, G, Lafayette. Averaged 29.7 points, 12.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game and finished with 2,556 career points.
