By Matt Porter

As he approaches a magical mark, the winningest coach in Palm Beach County history received some unexpected help.

Cardinal Newman baseball coach Jack Kokinda and his team were informed this week that their March 10 loss to Clewiston now a forfeit. Kokinda now has 698 wins in his 41-year career.

Clewiston self-reported an ineligible player, Cardinal Newman Athletic Director Alan Botkin said.
The Crusaders (5-14) travel to Spanish River Wednesday and host Glades Central Thursday.

The 64-year-old Kokinda, a 2003 Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame inductee and 16-time district champion, has a career record of 698-514-6. He began coaching at Cardinal Newman in 1969-70, shortly after graduating from Butler University.
