Miami Hurricanes’ Al Golden: We want Palm Beach County coaches’ trust

By Matt Porter

Former Miami coach Randy Shannon didn’t have a sparkling rep with Palm Beach County’s high school football coaches, but Al Golden is determined to create one for his program.

The new ‘Canes coach is on a mission to set a strong recruiting base in the area, he said Wednesday in an interview with ESPN 760’s Evan Cohen.

Though Golden’s regime pushed hard for last year’s top talents, like Dwyer’s Jacoby Brissett and Glades Central’s Kelvin Benjamin, Shannon’s staff wasn’t often seen in this area. Area coaches with top recruits report much more involvement with Golden’s crew, which held a scrimmage Saturday at Spanish River High in Boca Raton that was attended by more than 3,000 people.

UM has similar events planned for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.

Among Palm Beach County’s top 2012 recruits, the Hurricanes are in the running for Dwyer offensive tackle Patrick Miller, Palm Beach Gardens offensive tackle Avery Young, Palm Beach Central wide receiver Angelo Jean-Louis, Glades Central wide receiver Jaime Wilson, Jupiter quarterback Tyler Cameron and Seminole Ridge running back Gary Holmes.
