Softball: District playoff schedules, seedings set for next week

By Jeff Greer

We know the final standings and who plays when during next week’s district playoffs. Here’s the breakdown.

Admission to each game, regardless of venue, is $5. District tournament hosts are predetermined by the FHSAA, and some district tournaments will be held at neutral sites. Anyway, here’s every single district that features a Palm Beach County or T-Coast team.

At the end of each schedule, I’ve popped in a “quick swing,” which is a horrible nickname for some quick analysis of each bracket.

Seeds in parentheses

CLASS 6A

District 6

Monday
Kissimmee-Gateway (5) at Palm Bay-Bayside (4), 4 p.m.

Tuesday
At Lawnwood Stadium
Vero Beach (2) vs. Treasure Coast (3), 5
Centennial (1) vs. Bayside/Gateway winner, 7

Thursday
At Lawnwood Stadium
Championsip, 7

Quick swing: Centennial is the favorite because it has seven players batting better than .300. There’s a long way to go before it could happen, but it’s hard not to get excited about the Eagles potentially playing one of the District 9-6A in the state semifinals down the line.

District 9
All games at Palm Beach Gardens

Monday
Park Vista (2) vs. Santaluces (7), 5 p.m.
Palm Beach Gardens (1) vs. Boca Raton (8), 7

Tuesday
Palm Beach Central (4) vs. Seminole Ridge (5), 5
Jupiter (3) vs. Royal Palm Beach (6), 7

Thursday
Jupiter/Royal Palm Beach winner vs. Park Vista/Santaluces winner, 5
Palm Beach Gardens/Boca Raton winner vs. Palm Beach Central/Seminole Ridge winner, 7

Friday
Championship, 7

Quick swing: Gardens is the favorite because it’s home and has the experience of winning state titles, but this bracket is wide open. Jupiter beat Gardens at home, Park Vista beat Jupiter, and Gardens beat Park Vista. Toss in two wild cards in Palm Beach Central and Seminole Ridge, and this could be the best district tournament of them all. Lots of great pitching.

CLASS 5A

District 14
All games at Port St. Lucie

Tuesday
Sebastian River (1) vs. South Fork (4), 5 p.m.

Wednesday
Martin County (2) vs. Port St. Lucie (3), 5

Friday
Championship, 5

Quick swing: Martin County and Port St. Lucie have been struggling of late, and Sebastian River is the clear frontrunner.

District 15
All games at John I. Leonard

Monday
Dwyer (1) vs. Palm Beach Lakes (8), 4:30 p.m.
Wellington (2) vs. John I. Leonard (7), 7

Tuesday
West Boca Raton (4) vs. Lake Worth (5), 4:30
Spanish River (3) vs. Forest Hill (6), 7

Wednesday
Wellington-John I. Leonard winner vs. Spanish River-Forest Hill winner, 4:30
Dwyer-Palm Beach Lakes winner vs. West Boca-Lake Worth winner, 7

Thursday
Championship, 7

Quick swing: Oof. Another tough district. Wellington has been playing very well all season, rising as high as second in the area top 10, but the Wolverines have to get past their Dwyer curse. That’s what makes this a tough district to pick: Each of the top four seeds has a legitimate chance to win it, and this field is wide open.

CLASS 4A

District 14

Monday
Lincoln Park (4) vs. Fort Pierce Central (5), 6 p.m., Lawnwood Stadium
Boynton Beach (7) at Jensen Beach (2), 6
Fort Pierce Westwood (6) at Suncoast (3), 7

Tuesday
At Lawnwood Stadium
Suncoast-Fort Pierce Westwood winner vs. Jensen Beach-Boynton Beach winner, 5
Lincoln Park-Fort Pierce Central winner vs. Okeechobee (1), 7

Thursday
At Lawnwood Stadium
Championship, 7

Quick swings: Suncoast has some boppers and Jensen Beach has been playing great ball lately, but Okeechobee might be one of the most underrated teams in the state. Sam Harrell is as good as any pitcher around, and she can lead the Brahmans to the states.

District 15
All games at Southwest Ranches-Archbishop McCarthy

Monday
Olympic Heights (5) vs. Fort Lauderdale (4), 4 p.m.
Archbishop McCarthy (3) vs. Stranahan (6), 7

Tuesday
Archbishop McCarthy/Stranahan winner vs. Cardinal Gibbons, 4
Olympic Heights/Fort Lauderdale winner vs. Pembroke Pines Charter, 7

Thursday
Championship, 7

Quick swing: Olympic Heights has a promising young group, but this district is loaded. If the Lions get past Fort Lauderdale, they’ll get Pembroke Pines Charter, one of the top teams in the state.

CLASS 3A

District 13
All games at Clewiston

Tuesday
Clewiston (2) vs. St. Andrew’s (3), 3:30 p.m.
Cardinal Newman (1) vs. Glades Central (4), 6

Thursday
Championship, 5

Quick swing: Cardinal Newman has the district’s three best hitters in Casen Love, Rachel Rendina and Peyton Finlayson. Clewiston and St. Andrew’s should be a good game.

CLASS 2A

District 13

Monday
John Carroll (5) at Benjamin (4), 4 p.m.
Jupiter Christian (6) at Glades Day (3), 4
Pope John Paul II (7) at American Heritage (2), 7

Tuesday
At Benjamin
American Heritage/Pope John Paul winner vs. Glades Day/Jupiter Christian, 2
King’s Academy (1) vs. Benjamin/John Carroll winner, 4

Thursday
At Benjamin
Championship, 4

Quick swing: This is a very competitive group, too. Glades Day’s Brianna Lohmann is the best hitter among small-schools players. Benjamin’s freshman catcher Arden Pettit is already a star. King’s Academy pitcher Aubree Murphy willed her team to a regular-season district title. And then American Heritage is probably the favorite, being the winners of the past three district titles.

CLASS 1A

District 12
All games at Seminole Palms Park

Tuesday
Trinity Christian (3) vs. Wellington Christian (2), 3:30

Thursday
Berean Christian (1) vs. Trinity Christian/Wellington Christian winner, 4

Quick swing: Berean Christian P Amber Johnson has been awesome this year, and anything less than a district title would be surprising.

District 13
All games at Lake Worth Christian

Monday
Grandview Prep (1) vs. Summit Christian (4), 3 p.m.
Lake Worth Christian (2) vs. Boca Raton Christian (3), 5

Thursday
Championship, 5

Quick swing: Can Grandview start another run to the Class 1A state final? Jane Sallen has put together a solid season of her own, too.
