Track: Park Vista alum Elusme starring in college

By Matt Porter

Park Vista’s Jonas Elusme, a freshman at Wartburg College, is already a track star at his college.

Elusme, a Boynton Beach native, cleared 6 feet, 9 3/4 inches in the high jump Friday during a meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, setting a new school record in the event.

His leap broke the old outdoor school mark of 6-9, which had stood since 1992, and is the second-highest jump in NCAA Div. III outdoor track this season.

Elusme had the top indoor jump in Div. III this season, clearing 6-10 3/4 on Jan. 29. He was an All-American in the high jump (6-9 3/4) and long jump (23-2) at the March 12 NCAA Div. III Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

Elusme, who teamed with Demaris Freeman last season to power Park Vista, was a second-team All-Area selection last spring.

Freeman, by the way, signed a football scholarship with Charleston Southern. He played in eight games for the Buccaneers last season.
