Softball: Palm Beach Gardens, Park Vista ranked in top 10 of new statewide poll

By Jeff Greer

The new Miracle Sports class-by-class and statewide rankings came out late Saturday night, and there was a new member of the statewide all-classes poll.

The Post‘s top-ranked team, Palm Beach Gardens, moved into the all-classes poll as the No. 8 team. The Gators leapfrogged Park Vista, which stayed in the No. 10 spot, after Gardens narrowly edged out Park Vista for the District 9-6A title on Friday night. Here’s to hoping those two teams will meet again. Both games this year have been 1-0 thrillers decided by almost identical clutch hits, and both were won by Gardens.

Jupiter dropped entirely out of the Class 6A rankings and receiving-votes category. I guess the poll doesn’t rank eliminated teams, which doesn’t make much sense. Even with their early departure, the Warriors have to remain one of the top 6A teams in the state. They’re a victim of a tough district. Next year’s district will be even tougher, with Gardens, Jupiter, Wellington, Dwyer and Palm Beach Central each in one grouping.

Wellington moved up to sixth in the Class 5A poll, fresh off a District 15-5A title. American Heritage (2A) and Grandview Prep (1A) remained in the rankings as well, with both winning their district tournaments.
