Palm Beach Central athlete Angelo Jean-Louis committed to Miami Thursday, ending what could have been one of the more intense recruiting battles this year.

Jean-Louis (6-0, 190, No. 2 on the preseason Big Board) was a Post All-Area second-teamer as a junior, and is widely considered one of the best athletes in the nation in the 2012 class. His tantalizing talent means he can play multiple positions, though he was used primarily as a receiver at Palm Beach Central in 2010. He had 331 yards and four touchdowns as a receiver and returned a kickoff for a touchdown last season.

He had scholarship offers from at least 13 schools, including Ohio State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and several other BCS schools. Miami was long believed to be the frontrunner for Jean-Louis’ services.

Jean-Louis is the highest-ranked prospect on our 2012 preseason Big Board to commit so far. Third-ranked Jessamen Dunker, Boynton Beach’s massive offensive tackle, recently committed to Florida. Jaime Wilson, Glades Central’s standout wide receiver, verbally committed to Miami back in February, but reports say he’s since backed off that commitment.

Miami has received eight verbal commitments so far this year for its 2012 class.
