Soccer: American Heritage’s Verneri Valimaa named Gatorade Player of the Year

American Heritage attacking midfielder Verneri Valimaa was named Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Valimaa is the second American Heritage product to be selected for the award. The senior scored 32 goals and had 18 assists this past season, helping American Heritage win the Class 2A state title.

He holds a spot on both the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Under-18 national team and Finland’s U-20 team. He tallied 72 goals and 65 assists in his career at American Heritage.

Valimaa will play at George Mason in Virginia this fall. He was a Post All-Area first-team selection.
