Softball: Dwyer names teacher, alum Melanie Lott as new head coach

By Jeff Greer

Dwyer softball is one of the more successful programs in Palm Beach County. The Panthers had great success under former coach Joe DellaRocca, who resigned two weeks ago Monday.

Well, now Dwyer has a new person holding the reins.

Dwyer athletic director announced the hire of Melanie Lott as Dwyer’s new softball coach on Friday night. Lott graduated from Dwyer in 2004 and Florida State in 2008. Lott was a standout catcher at Dwyer, and made Post All-Area honorable mention her senior year. She currently teaches language arts at Dwyer.

The Panthers have all kinds of talent returning to their roster. Junior shortstop Jordan English and sophomore third baseman Danielle Fernandez both had fantastic seasons, and sophomore ace pitcher Mackenzie Huhn will also be back. Dwyer’s young team won the regular-season District 15-5A title but lost in the district-tournament finals to Wellington. The Panthers lost again to Wellington in the regional semifinals.
