Drought leaves Palm Beach County schools concerned about shape of playing fields

The lack of rain has Palm Beach County School District officials and athletic directors worried that their dried-up fields will take a beating when players hit the turf starting in August. But what worries them more is the lack of money to repair any damage caused by the drought or 300-pound linemen.

“It’s going to be a tough year for us,” said Fred Cahill, the district’s facilities management administrator.
