Baseball: West Boca’s Michael Kelly a Florida Mr. Baseball nominee

West Boca Raton pitcher Michael Kelly is among the nominees for the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Mr. Baseball award.

Kelly, a first-round supplemental MLB Draft pick and Florida commit, is the organization’s Class 5A player of the year.

Summit Christian coach John Drouin (Class 1A) and West Boca Raton coach Nick Siano (5A) are up for coach of the year. They are coaches of the year for their respective classes.

2011 Mr. Baseball Nominees
 
6A: Jose Fernandez, Tampa Alonso, P – Fernandez went 13-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 134 strikeouts. He hit .409 with nine home runs, 23 runs scored and 35 RBI, helping his team to a 23-6 record and the Class 6A state title.
 
5A: Michael Kelly, West Boca Raton, P – Kelly went 9-1 with a 2.01 ERA and 95 strikeouts. He hit .442 with six doubles, one triple, six home runs, 21 runs scored and 24 RBI, leading his team to a 27-4 record and the Class 5A state title.

4A: Lance McCullers, Tampa Jesuit, P/SS – McCullers posted a 5-2 record, a 1.71 ERA and 70 strikeouts. He finished with a .422 batting average, 10 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 24 RBI, leading his team to a 27-7 record and a spot in the Class 4A state championship game.

3A: Dan Vogelbach, Bishop Verot, 1B – Vogelbach finished the year with a .467 batting average, 19 home runs and 54 RBI, leading his team to a 28-4 record and the Class 3A state title.

2A: Dante Bichette, Jr., Orangewood Christian, P/IF – Bichette hit .640 with 10 home runs, 58 runs scored and 40 RBI and led his team to a 30-2 record and a spot in the Class 2A state championship game.

1A: Jason Hepple, Highlands Christian, C – Hepple finished the season with a .581 batting average, 14 home runs and 44 RBI. His team went 15-11 record and made the regional final.
 
2011 Coaches of the Year

1A: John Drouin, Summit Christian, 4th Year
Summit Christian finished the season with a 27-5 record and won the Class 1A state championship. In his four years at Summit Christian, Drouin’s teams have won a district title, made one Final Four appearance and won a state title. He has a career record of 79-31.

2A: Mike Posey, North Florida Christian, 28th Year
North Florida Christian finished the season with a 27-4 record and won the Class 2A state championship. In his 28 years at North Florida Christian, Posey’s teams have won 16 district titles, made eight Final Four appearances and won three state titles. He has a career record of 545-247.

3A: Tom LoSauro, Bishop Verot, 13th Year
Bishop Verot finished the season with a 28-4 record and won the Class 3A state championship. In his 13 years at Bishop Verot, LoSauro’s teams have won nine district titles, made two Final Four appearances and won a state title. He has a career record of 261-156.

4A: Rich Bielski, Archbishop McCarthy, 13th Year
Archbishop McCarthy finished the season with a 28-3 record and won the Class 4A state championship. In his three years at Archbishop McCarthy, Bielski’s teams have won three district titles, made three Final Four appearances, and won two state titles. He has a record of 77-12 at Archbishop McCarthy and a career record of 297-99.

5A: Nick Siano, West Boca Raton, 1st Year
West Boca finished the season with a 27-4 record and won the Class 5A state championship. In his first year at West Boca, Siano’s team won a district title, made a Final Four appearance and won a state title. He has a career record of 27-4.

6A: Landy Faedo, Tampa Alonso, 14th Year
Alonso finished the season with a 23-6 record and won the Class 6A state championship. In his 10 years at Alonso, Faedo’s teams have won two district titles, made two Final Four appearances and won two state titles. He has a record of 203-74 at Alonso and a career record of 257-127.
