Area products Cody Dent, Peter Mooney make All-College World Series team

By Jeff Greer

Park Vista alum Cody Dent and Seminole Ridge grad Peter Mooney made the College World Series all-tournament team, which was announced Tuesday night.

Mooney’s South Carolina defeated Dent’s Florida in an all-SEC championship series. South Carolina has won back-to-back national titles and set the record for consecutive CWS and NCAA tournament wins.

Mooney, who graduated from Seminole Ridge in 2008 and played at Palm Beach State for two years before moving on to South Carolina, hit .280 as the the Gamecocks’ everyday shortstop. He was one of seven South Carolina players to make the 11-player all-tournament team. He was 6 for 19 at the CWS, with three RBI and three runs scored. The junior homered and doubled in the championship-clinching game.

The sophomore Dent had four hits at the CWS — including a double and a triple — and drove in two runs. He scored three for the Gators, who lost two games to none in the championship series. Dent hit .207 for the season, but provided steady play at third for the Gators in the postseason.
