Puyol (5-11, 160) committed to the school while on a visit with his parents.

Via his Twitter account, Puyol cited UConn’s “gorgeous campus, great academics, top-notch facilities [and] great coaches that want to win.”

“It’s a place where I can call home,” he wrote.

Puyol also had an offer from Middle Tennessee State and had interest from several other BCS schools including Duke, Florida, Pitt, Purdue, TCU and Vanderbilt.

Puyol’s field goal range is more than 55 yards and he regularly boots kickoffs more than 75 yards. He was a near-automatic touchback machine last year for Dwyer.

He is ranked as one of the top 12 placekickers in the country by Chris Sailer Kicking.

Puyol was an All-Area honorable mention last year as a junior.
