Baseball: Gardens’ Nick Rickles, Jupiter’s Kurt Schluter among CBI All-Americans

By Matt Porter

Stetson junior catcher Nick Rickles, a Palm Beach Gardens alum, and sophomore Kurt Schluter of Jupiter were named All-America honorable mention by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

The distinction places Rickles among the nation’s top five catchers and Schluter in the top 30 among starting pitchers, according to CBI.

Rickles, a 14th round selection by the Oakland Athletics in this year’s MLB Draft, signed with the A’s last month. Before turning pro, he hit .347 with 12 homers and 62 RBI and earned first team all-Atlantic Sun honors.

Schluter, the 2011 A-Sun pitcher of the year, went 8-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 57.2 innings before his season was cut short by injury. He also walked 18 batters and did not allow a home run.

Stetson went 43-20 (23-7 A-Sun), won an A-Sun title and made its first NCAA regional final appearance since 2003.
