Baseball: Jupiter hires Andy Mook as head coach

By Matt Porter

Jupiter’s new baseball coach is a familiar face.

Assistant coach Andy Mook will take over for Doug Ferguson, who retired in May after 21 years as coach.

Mook, 37, has been an assistant under Ferguson for the last three years.

A 1992 Jupiter grad, Mook had a pair of two-year stints as a Warriors assistant in the ’90s and a year as Gainesville-Buchholz’ junior varsity coach before spending seven years as head coach at Palm Beach Lakes (2001-08).

Mook said he wants to “hit the ground running” in Jupiter.

“I’ve been with the program the last three years, so I know how everything’s going,” Mook said. It’s going to be tough because of the tradition Coach Ferguson has set up, but we’re going to do our best.”

Jupiter, which loses three first-team All-Area players in pitchers Ryan Harris (Florida) and Calvin Greener (Palm Beach State) and center fielder J.J. Crespo, should be strong again with a talented crop of young players.

“I’m blessed to walk into the situation I’m walking into,” Mook said. “We lost four or five starters, but we have such a great junior class coming up. We’ll compete.”
