Pitched for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, Teufel tossed six shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks, and struck out a career-high seven batters in a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons.

Watching closely was Tim Teufel, the Bisons’ manager and Shawn’s father.

Tim Teufel, the former New York Mets second baseman, helped coach Jupiter Christian while Shawn, a 2005 graduate, pitched there. He hadn’t been on the same field as his son since high school. He watched Shawn’s Triple-A debut from the third base coach’s box.

“I was nervous as a Dad,” he told MiLB.com. “It’s only the third time I’ve seen him pitch. He did a remarkable job throwing strikes and being calm about things. He was a lot calmer about things than I was.”

According to MiLB.com, it was the first time father and son faced off in minor league baseball since Tim Raines Jr. and Tim Raines Sr. in 2001.
