Tonight before the start of the their home opener, Lake Worth’s football team displayed a flag honoring the two Army platoons it has ‘adopted’.

The team sends two Iraq-based units of the 82nd Airborne Division monthly care packages and honors the troops by wearing the division’s ‘Double A’ emblem on their helmets. They trade emails weekly.

“They say good luck in the game, and they keep us informed,” Trojans assistant coach Todd Bush said.

A Lake Worth assistant coach is a veteran of the 82nd, as was Gary Swigert, a Lake Worth teacher who died in May.

“We wanted to show a lot of support for the Airborne, and the military in general,” Bush said.
