Orlando-area freshman throws state-record 10 touchdown passes in a game

By Matt Porter

Orlando-Lake Nona freshman quarterback Tucker Israel broke a state record Thursday night with 10 touchdown passes in a 68-10 victory against winless Celebration.

“Me and coach [Anthony Paradiso] thought we had something special planned tonight,” Israel told the Orlando Sentinel. “We weren’t thinking that, but as soon as the first half ended and I had eight, we decided to go for it.”

Oh, they went for it. Israel finished 27-of-31 for 534 yards, mostly on short throws that his receivers took the distance. Two were jet sweep shovel passes, according to the Orlando Sentinel. See the video – and all the TD passes – here.

Israel’s feat was No. 5 on ESPN SportsCenter’s top 10 plays on Friday night and received national attention. Yahoo! Sports’ Prep Rally blog asked if openly gunning for an offensive record was a good display of high school sportsmanship, as did the opposing coach, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Lake Nona (5-1) is a Class 5A school.
